If I had rated this iron right when I got it, it would have been a 5 star - it gets super hot (which I need with curly, thick hair) and gets hot FAST. It's also silky smooth and really glides through your hair - love the cord feature which allows for ease-of-movement. The downside is that since I've had it (1-2 months) the purple coating is totally coming off...and I'd suspect in another few months it will be really bad. I'm not sure if this is do to the product that I wear on my hair - might be - but I can't give it 5 stars when the coating started coming off immediately. Also, the iron doesn't have auto-shut off. Granted, it didn't advertise that it did, but I haven't purchased an iron in the past several years that DIDN'T have this feature so I took for granted that it did. If the coating wasn't coming off and it had auto-shut off, it'd be the best iron ever! I bought 2 curling irons in the time span of about a little over a year. The ceramic purple coating eventually burns off and fries your hair worse than a regular metal hot tools iron. The coating doesnt last long, if it didn't burn off the coating, this would be a good iron.

I did purchase Hot Tools 1.5" Curling Iron but not thru amazon unfortunately. Instead, I went to a local salon/beauty supply store in my area and paid over $60 for it (because I wanted it right away).

My hair is thick and course but choosing the right temperature setting on HT Curling Iron made all the difference. I used a higher setting due to my thick coarse and naturally curly hair. After washing my hair, conditioning, and towel drying it I used hair products in my hair that kept my hair from frizzing and that would leave it shiny and mosturized. Like: "beyond straight" and "Fantasia IC Hair Serum". I then dried my hair with a blow dryer using the cool air setting. The next day before leaving the house I used my HT curling iron and the results turned out wonderfully. My hair kept the curls all day, and the shine and softness for three days after.
